Bringing Sexy Back!

July 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Okay, so how about I NEED this dress in my closet!  Not too long ago I found about about plus-size designer Jibri and I am head over heels in love.  Her collection doesn’t have very many pieces available…but I have found more items I like on her site than I have found at sites with hundreds of items available.

For me its about the fit and the fabric. I need to the item to fit my 6′0 size 18/20 frame just right.  But I know I can def. rock this little number hard!

Isn’t that HOT!?  Anywho, I will keep my eye on this designer, she has a fashion show coming up in NYC on August 1st. For details check out her site at:  http://www.jibrionline.com.  Tickets are just $25 and for a sneak peek of what designs are in store for fall, I say it’s a worthy investment.

Until next time folks! Stay curvy and stay fab!

Falling for Fall…

July 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

My favorite season is fall, hands down. Perhaps, because I was born in the cool month of October or perhaps because I  love the fact that I can sport clothes that fit the body without baring too much skin or needing a coat to cover it all up.

So, while everyone else is getting their summer gear I have my eye on whats going down for the autumn season.  Here are some finds that are must haves for my closet…and hopefully, they will be on sale by the time I go and make my  purchase!

Rocking this simple yet sophisticated scraf will jazz up my subdued outfits!

Michelle Obama In Italy

July 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

President Barack Obama and our First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in Italy today for the G8 Summit.

It was love at first sight…

That dress…is so me!  Mrs. Obama is wearing a sophisticated sleeveless yellow dress adorned with green flower pendant.  Honestly, there isn’t anything special about the dress. But I love the quiet, sophisticated confidence it screams.  It’s like a warm hug from a gentle, wiser friend.  I think the simple elegance of this dress is stunning.  It’s free and you know it takes someone who is confident with who they are and what they know to pull this off.   Michelle has great long arms and she isn’t afraid to show them, gotta love it!

Mrs. Obama is first class all the way.  I am so proud that she is representing women of color so well!

A Curvy Diva’s Boycott

July 7, 2009 · 1 Comment

I love a sale and I love to travel.

And it is by no coincidence when I saw 70% off and travel in the same tweet, I clicked on the link provided so fast it took a while for the computer to catch up.  Okay maybe not that fast, but you get the point.  I landed on a site (name intentionally withheld) that indeed has some very cute clothes at about 30% off.  Not the 70% I sought, but I saw a few pieces that immediately caught my eye.  I have a few hangers in my closet that would like to meet some new friends and I had thought I had found a few to bring home. Until… I clicked on that little drop down button called “size”.

*Sigh*

The largest size they offered was an XL and in their vocabulary and XL is a size 12.  Yes, an XL=12! WOW!  Needless to say, my size 20 didn’t belong on that site.  Clearly, the designers had no intention of my D-cup and full hips in their clothing.  Bummer.  I would have rocked it too!

So, what was next?  Just like every curvy gal does, I licked my wounds and I clicked on the navigation bar to check out their jewelry and handbags.  But for the first time, I felt like I was walking to the back of the bus, or looking for the “colored only” water fountain.  I realized that I didn’t want to be “satisfied” by the accessory aisle any longer.  Why should I have to settle when it’s clear that my curves aren’t welcomed or wanted?

When these clothes were made, they surely didn’t have me in mind.  From a business standpoint, I am not their target market.  They aren’t trying to reach me or people like me, they don’t spend their money making clothing in my size or even an iota of thought on how to serve the curvy community.  So, if they don’t want me, why should I spend a dime with them?

So, I’m boycotting

No longer, will I purchase from retail establishments or designers that don’t reach out the mass community of women who are a size 14 or above.  I’m taking my money and putting towards those who take some time to consider women with curves.   No I’m not making a huge deal out of my personal boycott. I won’t picket or send emails to the offending parties. I will simply just allocate my funds towards those who cater to women like me.

So before you go shelling out your hard earned cash, think about whether the designer or store spent any money on you first.  Do they have clothes to fit your generous twists and turns?  Or, are you squeezing into the XL which is really made to fit a size 10 or 12?

Oh, so what did I get? This cute little number courtesy of Baby Phat who has a plus size line: http://tinyurl.com/kj624e.  What do you think?
